Mobile Pre-Purchase Car Inspection in Washington, DC

Buying a used vehicle in Washington, DC? Matevo comes to the vehicle for an independent mobile pre-purchase inspection. We coordinate with dealerships, private sellers, and vehicle representatives when permitted, then deliver a clear digital report to help you decide what to buy, what to negotiate, or when to seek further evaluation.

Matevo serves vehicle locations across Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast DC, subject to safe and permitted inspection access.

Pre-purchase inspections in Washington, DC

Buying a used car in Washington, DC usually means dealing with street parking, residential permit zones and busy neighborhoods. Sellers in Capitol Hill, Navy Yard, Columbia Heights, Brookland and Georgetown often keep cars on the street or in tight building garages, which makes a careful look before purchase harder than it should be.

Matevo brings the inspection to the car. Our inspector meets the vehicle at a permitted location in the District, works through your package checklist, photographs anything that needs attention and sends you a clear digital report. You can review it from work and decide whether to move ahead before you ever meet the seller.

City cars collect their own kind of wear: curb-rash on wheels, bumper scrapes, worn brakes from stop-and-go traffic. The report shows you exactly what is there.

Where we inspect in Washington, DC

Across Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast DC, inspections take place where the vehicle is accessible with permission:

  • Dealership lots when the dealership permits independent inspection access
  • Private-seller locations when the seller provides permission and safe working space
  • Permitted garages, lots, auction locations, or other approved vehicle locations
  • Other safe and authorized locations where the inspector can access the vehicle, open doors and hood, document findings, and perform applicable checks

Inspections in DC commonly take place in neighborhoods like these:

  • Capitol Hill and Navy Yard
  • Columbia Heights, Petworth and Brookland
  • Georgetown, Glover Park and Cleveland Park
  • Southwest Waterfront and Anacostia
  • Building garages and private lots across the District

Street parking in DC can be narrow and busy. A private space, alley garage or quieter residential block gives the inspector room to work safely. If a road test is part of your package, the seller needs to confirm the car is registered and insured.

Because space and access vary across DC, confirm that the vehicle is located in a safe and permitted place for an independent mobile inspection before booking.

Not every location can be inspected. Availability depends on the vehicle’s exact location, the access granted by the seller or dealership, and whether the inspector can work safely on site. Matevo is a mobile service and does not operate an office or storefront in Washington, DC.

What your report includes

Matevo reports are built to help buyers act on what was observed during the inspection. Depending on the package and inspection conditions, your report may include documented findings, photos, diagnostic-scan evidence, battery and charging results, road-test observations, accessible underbody notes, paint readings, measured brake findings, repair priorities, estimated repair ranges, and a Negotiation Brief for Signature inspections.

Inspection detail varies by selected package, vehicle design, safe access, seller/dealer permission, diagnostic support, and conditions at the inspection location.

Before You Book

Please confirm that the seller, dealership, or vehicle representative will provide access to the vehicle at the scheduled time. Road tests are performed only when the vehicle is safe, legal, insured, accessible, and authorized by the seller or dealership. Buyers are welcome to attend, but attendance is not required.

If the inspector arrives for a confirmed appointment and access is unavailable, the inspector waits up to 30 minutes. There is no cash refund after arrival, but the payment can be applied to one rescheduled inspection of the same vehicle within 14 calendar days, subject to availability. See the Cancellation & Refund Policy for full details.

Washington, DC inspection FAQs

Is there a travel fee for inspections in Washington, DC?

No. Washington, DC is inside our service area, and the package price already includes the inspector traveling to the vehicle. The inspector arrives during the 2-hour window you choose when booking.

How quickly will I get my report for a car in Washington, DC?

Reports are delivered within 4 hours of inspection completion. Signature inspections have a priority target within 1 hour after completion, subject to access limitations, safety conditions, technical issues, unusually complex findings or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

Will a Washington, DC dealership let you inspect the car?

Most dealerships allow independent inspections when they are told in advance. Let your salesperson know the booked time and ask them to have the car parked, unlocked and ready. If access is unavailable when the inspector arrives, our no-access policy applies.

What do I or the seller need to have ready?

The keys, access to the vehicle, and a safe spot with room to open the doors and hood. If your package includes a road test, the seller must confirm the car is registered, insured and allowed to be driven. You do not need to attend.

Can you inspect a car parked on the street in DC?

Yes, when the spot is safe and there is room to open the doors and hood. If the street is too busy or tight, the inspector may recommend moving the car to a safer spot nearby.

Inspection limitations

A pre-purchase inspection is a visual and operational assessment performed at a specific point in time, not a prediction of future reliability. Conditions may be concealed, intermittent, inaccessible, or develop after the inspection.

Diagnostic results depend on vehicle compatibility, available electronic systems, and successful communication with accessible modules.

Underbody observations are limited to components safely visible from ground-level access unless a lift inspection is specifically arranged.

Repair-cost ranges, when provided, are non-binding planning and negotiation estimates. Actual diagnosis, repair needs, parts costs, and labor rates may vary.
